Ryan Chavez

Co-Owner and Head Coach

A hockey player for 6 years, football player and track & field athlete for 3 years, competitive surfer and surfing instructor for 5 years and a personal trainer and sports performance strength & conditioning coach since 2009 – yeah, you could say Ryan lives and breathes athletics. Ryan’s many years of athletic development served him well as he jumped directly into a competition as his first taste of CrossFit – an energizing and humbling first encounter. Ryan has since been relentlessly expanding the limits of his athletic potential. Ryan has trained at numerous CrossFit gyms over the years alongside several elite CrossFit Games athletes, eventually becoming an avid Active Competitor himself with several top 10 finishes and podium positions in advanced and elite divisions.

Ryan has also completed the rigorous 130-hour Active Coach Development program and he is constantly seeking out opportunities to expand his knowledge and experience as a coach to get the most out of his clients. When he is not training, Ryan spends most of his time training as an Active Athlete or in the ocean.

Ashly Cain

Manager

Ashly handles everything from customer service to all the “behind the scenes” operations here at Active and she is probably one of the first people you will meet on our team. Ashly is an amazing team player who lives and breathes Active and has been a part of our family here for a long time.

From the time that Ashly took her very first steps she wanted to experience every recreational activity possible. She participated in many sports, but rock climbing, Taekwondo, and soccer were her favorites. She competed in each of these sports and just missed making the Jr. Olympic team as an alternate for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Ashly went on to earn her fourth-degree black belt becoming a Master in Taekwondo.

While Ashly was working as a full-time teacher, she became bored with the regular gym workouts and began her search for a new sport.  In October of 2012, she walked into our gym and found the perfect sport for her. Little did she know that Crossfit Active Performance would become so near and dear to her heart. She not only met new people at the gym, who are now her closest friends, but she met her best friend, who is now her husband. To say that Ashly loves Active is an understatement, and she is absolutely stoked to be part of our team!

Joe Garcia

Coach

Joe Garcia

Coach

Joe began his CrossFit journey back in March of 2011. At the time Joe was competing in MMA and Jiu Jitsu and his coach recommended a thing he had heard about called “crossed fit” to supplement his conditioning. After his first official workout (DT) he was hooked on the methodology and the community of CrossFit. Shortly after demonstrating his knowledge of movement skills and acquiring his Level 1 Certification he began coaching at his first CrossFit box.

Coaching athletes has always been Joe’s passion. After attending Cal State Fullerton for his Bachelors degree in Kinesiology he proceeded to attend grad school at USC and obtained his Masters in Kinesiology with emphasis on Human Performance. After graduating he was hired as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at a facility in Irvine where he trained numerous sports and all levels of competition. He was the Director of Sports Performance for the better part of 10 years. Although Joe worked with professional athletes on a daily basis he had always found it most satisfying in helping individuals who just wanted to improve their quality of life through exercise.

Throughout Joe’s journey he’s competed in numerous local and worldwide competitions as well as qualified as a competitor at CrossFit Regionals several times both as an individual and in a team setting.

When Joe isn’t coaching, working, or competing he enjoys traveling, experiencing new cultures and eating new foods. Joe has always enjoyed the outdoors but mostly the gift of life.

Michael Hadley

Coach

Coach Michael “Mickey” Hadley enjoys applying his CrossFit knowledge to sports and recreational activities. “I like seeing the functional application of what we do in the gym,” he says.

Mickey was raised in a household that lived by the idea that you can change things in your life if you put your head down, don’t complain and make the effort. If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you react to it. “As cliché or cheesy as it sounds, I am a glass ¾ full kind of guy,” he says. “I believe in positivity and that if I act, think, and be positive as often as I can, more positive energy will return to me. You get what you give.”
