5 Things to Consider When Planning for 2020

It's that time of year again, time to hit the reset button and set some goals for the new year. Every year that goes by though, what ends up happening? We end up falling off the wagon at some point - but why? Did we take on too much? Poor planning? Lost motivation? All of the above? Here are some things to think about when it comes to goal planning for 2020:

  1. Focus on what is MOST important: I mean REALLY think about it. Do you want to look better in a bikini? Why? Do you want to be "healthier"? What does that mean to you? Why is this important to you? What sacrifices need to be made? Is this still what's important? We see this a lot here at the gym. We get someone that wants to have abs or a six pack and once we explain to them what it takes, the excuses start rolling out. No judgement here, it just means it's not that important.

  2. Make a game plan to achieve your goal: Once you know, get some help from an Active Coach. Even if its not fitness related, talk to us - we're here to help! The main thing to focus on here is to make sure you have identified the things that MUST happen in order for you to achieve your goal I find that that best way to start making a plan is to think about what's working and whats NOT working. What are you doing today and do changes need to be made? For example, if your goal was to lose 10 lbs and you haven't been coming in to the gym consistently and you have 2 drinks every night, your plan should address that.

  3. KEEP IT SIMPLE: You may have already overwhelmed yourself but don't worry. Think of achieving your goal as a continuum instead of a binary, success or failure. A big part of our culture here at Active is that we aim to get just a little bit better every day. It is way too unrealistic to think that just because you've set a new goal means you are going to all of a sudden crush it. Which leads me to my next point.

  4. Focus on behaviors: Especially the ones that are having a negative impact on your progress. Just because you come to the gym 5 days a week, doesn't mean you are healthier. In fact, you could be stressing your body out. If you have a bad habit of hitting snooze and not coming to the 6am, forcing you to make it to the 4:30pm class half the time, that should be addressed too.

  5. Ask for help: No one can do this alone. Ask for help from a Coach and from a peer. Let people know what you are trying to do so they can support you.

Hopefully this helps you with your 2020 goal planning. Remember, everyone here is here to support each other. Let's crush next year.
